Orbital Sanders

Orbital Sanders

Random orbital sanders are comfortable to grip and easy to use. An orbital sander spins the sanding pad in two ways. The sanding pad rotates in a large circle, but it also oscillates in several small circles within the larger circle. An orbital sanding machine is a popular tool because it doesn't leave swirl marks. The round sanding pads are true all-rounders and ideal for rough, fine and final sanding.

Random Orbital Sander vs Palm Sander

We'll be taking a look at two of the most commonly used sanders. On the surface of it, both machines might look similar. They can both be used for stripping paint, shaping wood, use regular sandpaper and are hand-held. However, there are a few differences between the two.

  1. Orbital sanders can best be used for working on large surfaces, palm sanders for small surfaces
  2. Palm sanders are more affordable
  3. Random orbital sanders are heavy duty tools, palm sanders are lightweight and smaller
  4. Orbital sanding machines will get bigger sanding jobs done much more quickly, whereas palm sanders give a smoother finish
