Buy automotive primer

Car primer is one of the most important aspects in car repair. Whether you’re spraying car paint or performing spot repair, you will need to use primer paint at some point. Auto primer generally refers to a paint layer that’s usually applied to freshly sanded or bare metal surfaces.

The importance of primer paint

Just like car spray paint, primer paint can be applied with a paint spray gun. Some people underestimate the importance of using car primer during car repair. Without auto primer as a buffer, car paint will lead to flaking, peeling and eventually rust. Primer paint is important for a number of reasons

  • Good filling power
  • Helps car spray paint to adhere on bare metal
  • Some are anti corrosive and prevent rust (epoxy)

1K epoxy primer with corrosion protection

1K epoxy primer has excellent adhesion and corrosion protection properties. Epoxy primer can be used on

  • All metal surfaces e.g. steel, stainless steel
  • Aluminium
  • Anodised aluminium
  • Brass
  • Sanded factory coats and old paint layers
  • Various plastics
  • Glass fibre-reinforced synthetic material

Quick dry primer

All 1K primers are quick drying because they consist of 1 stage primer paint. Also, paint layer thickness is considerably less thick than 2K auto primers. A quick dry primer undercoat is a multi-purpose primer paint that cuts preparation time in half. Quick dry primer provides an outstanding foundation to which topcoats can be applied.

1K primer filler spray can

Our car primer fillers can be used on all metal surfaces. Recommended for repairing small damages areas and spot repairs. It can be used on

  • All metal surfaces
  • Has a high filling capacity
  • Smooth flow properties
  • Fast drying

Primer paint can

We also sell a wide range of 1 component primer paint can. These car primers can easily be used with a paint spray-gun.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is primer spray paint?

rimer spray paint is a primer that you spray as an adhesive primer on a substrate or surface. A spray paint primer is overpaintable with 1K and 2K paint based on thinner or water.

What do you use primer spray paint for?

A primer spray can is used when you want to quickly spray primer on a part or surface. Use a primer spray can for materials that still need priming to make paint adhere.

How long should primer dry?

How long primer needs to dry depends on temperature, humidity and layer thickness. A primer does not need to dry long if you process it at room temperature.

Do you need to sand primer

Once the primer is dry, you need to sand it. Sanding the primer smooths the surface and lightly roughens the primer layer. This helps the color car paint or 2K paint adhere better to the primer. If you don’t sand the primer, the paint will not adhere as well to the base coat.

Is primer necessary to use?

Basically, primer is necessary to ensure the paint adheres to the surface according to the RAL number. However, if you're spraying this paint over existing paint that is already in good condition, it is not necessary to use a primer. If you're unsure whether a bonding primer is needed, we always recommend using it! Sand off any loose paint first and apply a primer for the best adhesion and durability of the spray paint.

Which color primer should I use?

For some car paint colors, it's important to use the right color primer. In this case, grey primer is the most commonly chosen color for the base coat.

Do you need primer over rust converter?

No, no primer is needed over a rust converter. As the name suggests, it encapsulates and transforms the rust into a primer-like layer, preventing further rusting of the surface. You can directly apply car paint, 2K paint, or a coating over a rust converter.

Do you use filler or primer first?

Primer ensures the adhesion of the color paint you want to spray. For this reason, you apply filler first and then primer, so that the color paint adheres properly to the primer.
