2K car paint in can

2K car paint in can is the most professional 2 component car paint custom made. This 2K paint is mixed by color code or color name making it 100% colorfast with the original solid paint of the car brand, motorcycle brand or solid RAL color. The CROP 2K car paint in a can is a 2 component paint to which hardener and thinner must be added. This makes 2K lacquer directly resistant to UV sunlight, gasoline, salt, scratches, chemicals and all weather influences.

2K car paint in metallic color?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to order 2K automotive lacquer in metallic color. Because metallic paint contains glitter, it is not possible to make it in a 2-component paint quality. Because of this, a metallic color can only be ordered as base paint. This one-pack car paint is a base coat that must be finished with two-pack clearcoat. This is also how original cars are sprayed in the factory.

Buy 2K automotive paint

Want to buy 2K car paint by color code or color name? At CROP you can use the color configurator to order canned 2 component lacquer that 100% matches lacquer on your car. Based on the car make, model and color group, you choose the right can of 2K car paint. Is the color code or name of your car not listed? Fill it in freely so we can still make the paint for you. Please note! Only solid colors and uni paint is possible in 2 component quality.

Gloss levels of tinned 2K automotive lacquer

With 2K car paint you determine the gloss level yourself. At CROP you can choose from 5 different degrees of gloss when you go to buy the 2 component car paint. Factory original car paint has high gloss. Nowadays 2K car paint is also very popular in matte, ultra matte and silk gloss. Choose from the gloss levels below for your 2K spray paint.

  • High gloss (100% gloss)
  • Silk gloss (50% gloss)
  • Egg gloss (30% gloss)
  • Matt (10% gloss)
  • Ultra Matt (0.5% gloss)

Mixing ratio 2K automotive finishes

Mixing ratio of 2K car paint is 2:1 and add up to 10% dilution. This means that to 1 liter of car paint, 500ml of hardener should be added. Once the 2 components are mixed together, we recommend mixing max 10% dilution through the 2K paint. Pay strict attention that you order the correct hardener and thinner. Interchanging different grades can lead to chemical reactions and cracking paint.

Do I need to dilute 2K automotive paint?

It is not necessary, but we recommend it! Usually, 2K automotive paint is thinned up to 10%, making the paint a little thinner and easier to spray with the spray gun. Thinning 2 component paint also minimizes the chance of sags in the paint. Be aware, however, that thinning 2K paint can come at the expense of hiding power. In short, it is a personal preference whether you want to thin 2K automotive paint.

Do not forget to order the hardener!

2K automotive paint, as the name implies, consists of 2 components. The first component is the color paint itself. The second component is the hardener. These 2 components must be mixed together. Because the hardener is added to the paint, the hardening of car paint will take place. This assures you that the car paint will cure completely and rock hard. The 2K paint is then resistant to gasoline, chemicals, scratches, salt and other external influences.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I find my car's color code?

The color code of your car is on the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). This is a sticker or plate in the car. The location varies depending on the make and model. Common locations include: driver’s door, under the hood, and in the trunk (near the spare tire). If you can’t find it, check the manual or contact the dealer.

Can 1K lacquer be applied over 2K lacquer?

You can apply 1K lacquer over 2K lacquer if it is of the same quality. By lightly sanding and degreasing first, you can apply 1K lacquer over 2K lacquer.

How much lacquer do you need for a car?

How much lacquer you need for a car depends on how big the vehicle is. On average, you need 4 litres of car paint to completely refinish it.

What is 2K car paint?

2K car paint is a paint that consists of 2 components. Through 2K car paint you mix hardener, which ensures that the paint cures completely. This makes 2K car paint scratch-proof, petrol-resistant, UV-resistant and chemical-resistant.

How long does 2K car paint have to dry?

How long 2K car paint has to dry depends on 3 factors. The drying time of 2K automotive paint is determined by layer thickness, temperature and humidity.

How do I use a spray can?

Before using a spray can, make sure to shake it well. When spraying with a spray can, always work in a space that is at room temperature. The spray can itself should also be at room temperature.

How much can I spray with a spray can?

A 400ml spray can covers approximately 1.5 to 2 m², depending on the material porosity and layer thickness. For larger projects or multiple layers, we recommend accounting for an extra 10% to ensure you don't run out halfway through.

How many layers of car paint should I apply?

The number of layers of automotive paint you need to apply depends on the coverage of the color. Usually, 3 layers are sufficient. However, for lighter color paints that have less coverage, we recommend applying an additional layer of color until you achieve the desired result.

How long should car paint cure?

The curing time for automotive paint depends on temperature, humidity, and layer thickness. At higher temperatures, the curing process is faster compared to lower temperatures. Additionally, 1K automotive paint dries faster than 2K automotive paint.

Do I need to order hardener and thinner?

Yes, polyester resin paint can be thinned with thinner or our special hardener/thinner for polyester resin paint.

What is the drying time for car paint?

The drying time of automotive paint is determined by 3 factors: layer thickness, temperature, and humidity. We recommend monitoring this yourself until the paint is dust-dry. Once this is the case, the paint can be over-sprayed with clear coat or handled!

How much car paint do I need?

This depends on the size of the damage, the type of paint, the surface, and your spraying technique. For a small panel like a mirror cap, you'll need approximately 100–150 ml; for a door handle or trim, about 100 ml; for a bumper corner or fender, around 200–300 ml; for an entire bumper, 400–500 ml; and for a full door or hood, approximately 500–700 ml. For a full respray of the car, this can add up to around 3–4 liters, depending on the color and coverage. We always recommend calculating 10% extra to ensure you don’t run out halfway through.
