Should clear coat be applied over car paint?
Yes, you should use clear coat over 1K automotive paint to protect the color. When buying clear coat, you have options such as high-gloss, satin, and matte, as well as 1K and 2K. 2K clear coat is the original factory high-gloss finish and is the most commonly chosen varnish.

does its job as it should
Yeah what can I say, brake cleaner is just a strong degreaser and it does its job well. Furthermore, it's also cheap and that's really all you need from a product like this.

For degreasing, I don't think you have a better material than this. I clean my metal after I cut it with the electric saw. I use normal oil in that, so you can imagine it gets well greasy.
