How the MIPA 2K CS90 clear coat came about

No car is immune from small scratches in the paintwork caused by car washes, stone chips and other mischief. They mar the bodywork. MIPA tackles this evil with MIPA CS90. This is an ultra scratch-resistant clearcoat, which retains its optimum gloss for a long time. Scratch-resistant clearcoat from MIPA is being offered by more and more car manufacturers as an option on their luxury models. To enable bodyshops to provide the same quality in repairs, MIPA developed the CS90 clearcoat.

Drying times of the MIPA 2-component scratch-resistant clearcoat

The scratch-resistant clearcoat can be used for both spot repairs and complete car refinishing. It is applied in two coats with an intermediate drying time. MIPA CS90 dries at a low temperature of 60 degrees Celsius. Only two coats are applied, with 3 minutes of intermediate evaporation, just like our standard clearcoats.

  • MIPA CS90 can be used to repair minor damage to any part of the vehicle.
  • MIPA CS90 can be dried at 60°C or dried with an infrared dryer, and then easily refinished and polished if necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the shelf life of clear varnish?

How long clear varnish stays good depends on how you store it. An unopened can and spray can of clear varnish stays good for years.

How do you apply clear varnish?

Clear varnish is applied with a spray can or a paint sprayer. There are several ways to apply clear coat. If you apply clear varnish, make sure you apply at least 2 layers.

Which varnish is best?

Which varnish is best is determined by the user. For a plain uni colour, a 2K lacquer is best. If the colour lacquer is metallic or pearlescent, a 1K lacquer is best.

How many coats of clearcoat should I apply?

Applying 2 coats of clearcoat is enough to have enough layer thickness. Do you want the clear coat to have more ‘body’? Then apply another layer of clear coat.

How much time between coats of clear coat?

5 minutes time between coats of clear coat is sufficient. By keeping a time of 5 minutes between coats of clear coat, the varnish has enough time to evaporate.

What is the difference between clear varnish and coloured varnish?

The difference between clear varnish and colour varnish is that you spray a clear varnish as a varnish over the colour varnish. A clear varnish is transparent and a coloured varnish contains pigments that give the paint colour.

What is clear coat?

Clear coat is a transparent lacquer that you apply over a colour lacquer. This makes a clear coat the same as a varnish that protects the colour lacquer from scratches, discolouration by sunlight, impacts, weather, salt and more.

How much can I spray with a spray can?

A 400ml spray can covers approximately 1.5 to 2 m², depending on the material porosity and layer thickness. For larger projects or multiple layers, we recommend accounting for an extra 10% to ensure you don't run out halfway through.

Top lak!
I bought this 2k lacquer because I do a lot of modeling and want my models as tight in paint as the beautiful bolides driving outside. This paint is great to handle, flows nicely and results are top notch! Also good to polish!
