D8740 Plastic Primer Additive
PPG D8740 Plastic Primer Additive is developed with the latest technology for use with PPG's DP4000 2K Primer. The plastic primer additive makes bumper repairs faster, easier and better. D8740 saves time and material, leading to higher efficiency.
Direct to metal primer
PPG DP4000 2K primer is now even better when combined with this new additive, allowing the primer to be applied directly to plastic bumpers. DP4000 2K combined with the new D8740 additive is an extremely versatile and easy-to-use primer that can now be applied directly to all common substrates in damage repair. This allows you to work quickly and efficiently.
Plastic primer
The plastic primer additive eliminates the need to use plastic adhesion primer. Simply replace the thinner, and D8740 Plastic Primer Additive provides excellent adhesion properties. Omitting this application, the associated flash-off time and cleaning of this additional layer reduces plastic processing time by 40% (about 30 minutes) and significantly reduces material consumption.

Do you need to sand primer
Once the primer is dry, you need to sand it. Sanding the primer smooths the surface and lightly roughens the primer layer. This helps the color car paint or 2K paint adhere better to the primer. If you don’t sand the primer, the paint will not adhere as well to the base coat.
