- Wet sanding of car paint or clear coat: With grit 400, you smooth out minor imperfections such as dust bunnies or orange peel in a paint layer. Using it wet keeps the paper sharp and prevents it from clogging up with paint dust.
- Refining intermediate coats of paint or primer: On wood, metal, or plastic, use grit 400 to work a primer or intermediate coat neatly flat before applying the next layer. Fine enough not to sand through the layer, provided you work wet and keep the surface wet.
- Less suitable for rough preparatory work or removing a lot of material: For sanding rough wood bare or quickly removing old paint layers, grit 400 is too fine and waterproof paper does not make sense. Use dry sandpaper with grit P80 to P120 for that.
