3D WIPE Surface Prep for Ceramic Coatings

The 3D WIPE Surface Prep is a professional panel wipe and degreaser for car paint, specially developed as the final preparation step before applying a ceramic coating. The water-based formula removes remaining polishing oils, polish residues, and other contaminants that can prevent optimal adhesion of the coating. At the same time, WIPE offers remarkably high lubricity, reducing the risk of light towel scratches and marring during degreasing. The result is a completely clean surface on which a ceramic coating can adhere optimally.

Removes Polishing Oils After Paint Correction

After compounding and polishing, invisible oils and product residues can remain on the paint. These residues can negatively affect the adhesion and ultimate performance of a coating. 3D WIPE is strong enough to chemically remove these substances from the surface, ensuring the paint is actually clean before protection is applied.

Optimal Preparation for Ceramic Coatings

Good preparation is essential for the performance of a ceramic coating. Therefore, 3D WIPE is used after compounding and polishing, but before applying the coating. By removing remaining oils and other substances, a clean surface is created where the coating can directly adhere. This contributes to optimal adhesion, durability, and performance of the ceramic protection.

High Lubricity Helps Prevent Towel Marring

Many traditional panel wipes are highly degreasing but offer little lubrication during wiping. This can lead to towel marring and fine towel scratches, especially on sensitive, freshly polished clear coats. 3D has therefore equipped WIPE with a high lubricity formula. This allows the microfiber towel to glide more easily over the paint, reducing the risk of re-inflicting light damage.

Water-Based Formula with Purified Water

3D WIPE Surface Prep is a water-based panel wipe that uses highly purified and filtered water as a base. 3D uses reverse osmosis to remove dissolved solids from the water. For the actual cleaning action, the formula uses a special combination of surfactants.

For Paint, Glass, Plastic, Rubber, and Metal

Although WIPE is primarily developed as a preparation for car paint, the product is more broadly applicable. According to 3D, the surface prep can be used on paint, glass, plastic, rubber, and metal surfaces. This allows you to degrease and prepare various surfaces around the vehicle without needing a separate surface prep for each material.

Suitable for 3D Ceramic Coating and Other Coatings

3D WIPE is developed as the ideal preparation for 3D's ceramic coatings, but is not exclusively bound to these products. According to the manufacturer, WIPE can be used as pre-coating prep for 3D Ceramic Coating and other coatings. This makes the product widely applicable within professional detailing and coating treatments.

Pleasant Scent Without Harsh Solvent Smell

Where traditional panel wipes can have a strong and unpleasant solvent smell, 3D WIPE has a fresh, clean, and pleasant scent according to the manufacturer. This makes the product more pleasant to work with, especially when each body panel must be carefully wiped down during a full coating treatment.

How to Use 3D WIPE Surface Prep?

Ensure the car is fully washed, decontaminated, and if necessary corrected and polished. Then use 3D WIPE as the final cleaning step before applying the coating. Apply the product to the area to be treated and carefully wipe the surface with a clean and soft microfiber towel. Work systematically panel by panel and regularly use a clean part of the towel. Once all polishing oils and other residues are removed, the surface is ready for the application of the ceramic coating.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I use to degrease?

You can degrease using a degreasing agent or cleaning product. These are special products designed to remove grease from paint, coatings, or surfaces.

Can I degrease with brake cleaner?

Although people use brake cleaner for degreasing, we do not recommend it. Brake cleaner contains acids that can cause paint to crack, chip, or react. Always use a high-quality degreaser instead.

How to degrease car paint?

To degrease car paint, you'll need a degreaser specifically designed for automotive surfaces. First, apply the degreaser to the car paint using one cloth. Then, use a second clean cloth to wipe off the degreaser. This process ensures that the surface is thoroughly cleaned and free of grease, making it ready for further treatment or painting. Always use two cloths—one for application and the other for removal—to ensure the best results.

Does a rust converter need a primer?

No, a primer is not required over a rust converter. As the name suggests, the rust converter encapsulates the rust and transforms it into a layer that acts like a primer, preventing further rusting. You can apply automotive paint, 2K paint, varnish, or a coating directly over a rust converter
