3M 07448 Scotch-Brite GREY Sanding Pad contains the finest grit and is used for finishing areas in critical paint, for lightly roughening surfaces and when finishing water-based paints. 3M Scotch-Brite Hand Pad combines flexibility with effective cutting action and precise hand control to accomplish tough cleaning jobs or produce fine finishing results, use after use. Very fine grade aluminum oxide abrasives cut fast and fine, leaving a smooth, finished surface. Suitable for use on a wide variety of materials and for many different tasks.
Scotch-Brite Hand Pads for sanding all types of surfaces
This hand pad uses aluminum oxide abrasive. Aluminum oxide is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its cut-rate and long life. This mineral is a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges in use, whereas traditional abrasives, such as garnet, quickly wear down with use. Due to its high cut-rate, hardness, strength, and low heat retention, aluminum oxide mineral is widely used in grinding applications in addition to sanding and finishing use. Aluminum oxide is suitable on a wide variety of substrates in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys.
Offers Precise Hand Control
The performance of Scotch-Brite Hand Pad is comparable to steel wool grade 1. However, unlike steel wool, Scotch-Brite pads won't shred during use, rust after use, or create fine metal splinters. The non-woven, open-web material resists loading and can be used dry, with water or solvents, and rinsed clean for reuse. This multipurpose 6 x 9" pad can be used by hand for precise control, with a hand pad block for uniform finishing, or on an in-line sander to cover large areas.
Alternative to steel wool, wire brushes and sandpaper
The hand pads contain a unique surface conditioning product with abrasives incorporated into non-woven nylon or other synthetic fibers. Combining abrasives into the fibers creates an abrasive system that delivers consistent results for the life of the product. The open-web material is load resistant and keeps the abrasive minerals cutting at high performance by limiting clogging of the fibers.

Grit
Grit size indicates how coarse or fine the sandpaper is.
A low grit (e.g., P40–P80) is coarse and suitable for quickly removing material, such as paint or rust. A medium grit (e.g., P100–P320) is ideal for smoothing surfaces and preparing for further finishing. A high grit (e.g., P320 and higher) is fine and is used for sanding between coats and achieving a smooth final result. |

- Wet sanding of car paint or clear coat: Remains flexible and clogs less quickly when used wet, allowing you to work more evenly and leave fewer scratches between paint layers or for polishing.
- Preparing metal or gelcoat on a boat or camper: Water-resistant and suitable for wet use to limit heat and dust on smooth, hard surfaces. Great for targeted finishing where dust is undesirable.
- Less suitable for removing coarse material from wood or paint: Waterproof paper is mainly for wet, fine finishing. For sanding wood bare or thick layers of paint, it is better to choose dry sandpaper with grit P40 to P120.
